2nd Bracknell Scout Group will be 50 years old in 2010.
We are marking the year with a special evening in June, a camp in July and
also a badge to wear on our uniform. Click on "past events"
to see what we have been up to - we don't go back for the
full 50 years but there are lots of reminders from events
back to 2001. I wonder where those Cubs are now?
Anniversary Camp - 24 to 31 July 2010
We have decided that a fitting way to mark this occasion
is to have week camp open to all sections. It will run from
Saturday 24th July to Saturday 31st July at Phasels Wood
Camp Site near Kings Langley and full information is on the
summer camp page.
Jubilee
fun day: We have designated Wednesday 28 July as our
Jubilee Fun Day. Things will start at 2pm with a series of
games and activities run by each section from making twists
to circus skills and mini-Olympics. At 4.30pm there will be
a presentation by the
Group
Executive Committee. The
Fellowship will then be running a barbecue from 5pm and
this will be followed by a camp fire for the whole group. We
anticipate that the evening will finish at 10pm. Everybody
is welcome to come to the fun day but there is a £4 charge
to cover camp fees and the barbecue. To help with catering
please complete and return the
reply slip.
Anniversary badge
At the end of 2009 we held a competition to design a
badge that we can wear on our uniform to celebrate our 50
years. The winning design is shown at the top of the page
and is being worked up into a proper badge.
Anniversary t-shirt
2nd Bracknell has had its dark blue group t-shirt for
many years. Every now and again we do a special edition and
this year is one of those. You can now get the 50th
anniversary version of the t-shirt from your leaders. They
cost £6.50 for children and £7.50 for adults.
How many Cub leaders do you need to cover 50 years?
With the group celebrating its 50th anniversary this year it
is interesting to look back through our busy Cub section and
see the leaders that we have had.
- I'm not sure who was running things right at the start
but in those days 2nd Bracknell met at their old hall on
the London Road. They were soon joined by a young
scientist from the Met Office who was to have a major
effect on the history of the group. Once he started,
Barry
Smith was Akela for over 30 years and for many of us in
the group is still held in high esteem. When he died in
2005 we produced a
tribute to his 2nd Bracknell years.
- See our
leaders page for names and photos of some of the other
leaders that have helped us in the last 50 years and let
us know your details if we've missed you off.
