Congratulations to Aidan
McCormack from Stags who won the County Chess Competition.
This report from
the Bracknell News, Thursday 9 March (corrected)
A nine year old
mastermind has been named chess champion for Berkshire Cub Scouts
after a clean sweep of wins.
Aidan McCormack,
from 2nd Bracknell cub pack, won the trophy after winning five
out of five games in the County final. Up against 12 other packs
from Berkshire, Aiden proved he was top strategist in the game.
He had already won the South East Berks District competition
(held last October) and had to give up a weekend at Cub Camp to
compete in the County competition.
His mother, Sue,
said "We were a little surprised that he won it but not too
surprised. We have always encouraged him to play chess." Aiden
started playing chess two years ago after his father taught him
the game. "He has really got into it in the last six months and
become really good at it," said Mrs McCormack.
Aidan, who
attends Warfield Primary School has been a cub for two years and
is seconder of Brown six. He is already plotting his next move
on the board - defending his title in the competition next year.
