The swimming
gala took place on Sunday 26 November. We entered 3 teams -
Sharks, Squids and Seals. You can see who was in each team
and also their results on our
team list.
Here is
Baloo's report from the event:
That was a
pretty successful afternoon - it was particularly pleasing
that all three of the 2nd Bracknell teams made it to the
final of the relay event! Luke, with his very strong
swimming, won all of his races and with excellent
contributions from James and Robert in their individual
events, and the contribution from them and Tom to win the
relay, 2nd Bracknell Sharks were clear winners of the Palmer
Shield.
With
excellent contributions from Alistair, who was first in the
width freestyle, and third in the backstroke, and JR (first
in the breaststroke (diving) and third in the freestyle) and
Sammy (first in the breaststroke (siw)), and with the
support of Adam in the relay (in which the team came
second), 2nd Bracknell Squids deserved the runners-up place.
With such
strong swimmers in the Sharks and Squids teams, and some
very good individual swimmers in the other teams, 2nd
Bracknell Seals found the competition quite hard. However
with very good results from Chris and Sam, they were unlucky
just to miss out on the third place spot for the Palmer
Shield to the team from 1st South Ascot.
Luke being on
such good form, the Open Medley looked to be his race and so
it turned out with a winning time of 1:56. However it was
closer than it looked because from the second heat JR came
third with a time of 2:13. Second place was taken by Katie
from 1st South Ascot and her time must have been fairly
close to Luke's
time!
Well
done to all the competitors, an excellent performance from
everyone!
If you are in
our teams have you got your
Swimmers badge yet? It is a five stage badge but
unfortunately just taking part in the gala does not complete
it - although it does count as an "organised event" for part
7. If you have swimming lessons just print off a copy of the
requirements and get your swimming teacher to sign to say
you can do it.
You can see how we got on in previous years by
visiting our Past Events page.
