Summer term Programme : Activities (reply slip)

Events
Our forthcoming events are listed in order of date. Please scroll down or use the events links on the left of the page:

St George's Day Parade: 27 April
One of the important weekends in the Scouting calendar is coming up. Please see our St George's Day page for full details of the arrangements for the parade.

Narrowboating weekend: 9-11 May
For one of our nights away next term, we have decided to try something a little different. The Scouts have had quite a few successful nights away on a narrowboat and we have decided to see what it is like! We will be away on Friday 9th May to Sunday 11th May. As the boat can only take nine Cubs, we have decided to have two groups, which means that we will be able to take 18 Cubs in total. One group will leave Bracknell in the minibus on Friday evening, overnight on the narrowboat, travel up (or down!) the canal on Saturday and return to Bracknell Saturday evening. The second group will then leave Bracknell, overnight on the narrowboat, travel on the canal on Sunday and return Sunday evening. You can now download the narrowboating letter (including guest list), kit list, health form and joining instructions. If you are going on this trip you should now complete and return your health form.

Giants & Monsters Camp: 13-15 June
As our camps are so popular, we have added another camp to the events for this term. We are planning to go to Walton Firs (under canvas – so we will need some volunteers to help pitch camp on Friday and strike camp on Sunday!) for the weekend of 13th – 15th June. We hope to be joined by some of our friends from 1st Billingshurst. The details for this camp are still being finalised, but it is likely to cost £35. This camp takes place on the national Giant Sleepover weekend and so you will be able to help break the Guinness World Record for 'the biggest simultaneous sleepover' overnight on Saturday 14 June 2008. As usual there will be a limited number of places available, so if you would like to go please return the reply slip together with a deposit of £10.

Gilwell Park funday - 22 June
We will again be attending the funday at Gilwell Park this year. Our trip takes place on Sunday 22 June and is open to Cubs and Beavers. A note giving more information has been issued. Please return the consent form if you are going on this trip. There is a possibility that we may be able to organise a second coach because we are still getting a number of enquiries about places. If you haven't got a place but would like to go please make sure that your leaders know.

Splash day at Longridge - 29 June
Longridge is the Scout Association's water activity centre on the Thames at Marlow. The District has booked it for an activity day on 29 June where you will get to try out several of their activities including bell boats, kayaking, sailing and climbing. We have 24 Cubs attending this event as you can see from the guest list.

Summer Camp – 26th July – 2nd August
We have already booked the site for our Summer Camp and decided on a space theme. This year we are going to Cranham in Gloucestershire with the Scouts. We last went to this site in 2004 and you can see some of the things we did under “Past Events” on the website. We will again be offering the option of a mini camp (Saturday – Tuesday) or a full weeks camp. Unlike previous years we will not be arranging transport so you will need to make your own arrangements.
We are still very much in the planning stage, but do need an idea of numbers. The costs are likely to be £130 for the full week and £90 for the mini-camp and it is now time for you to pay your deposit. We still have some places at camp so if you would like to go, please complete the reply slip, indicating if you are interested in the full week or the mini camp.

CubJam - May 2009
Cubjam 2009 is a jamboree camp for Cubs that will be held at the Scout Association Headquarters at Gilwell Park from Saturday 23rd May 2009 to Friday 29th May 2009. At the moment we are deciding whether we should attend and are looking for expressions of interest. Please see the note and return the reply slip if you are interested.

Group T-Shirts
The Cub
Uniform includes an optional green polo shirt but we would prefer you to wear our blue group T-shirt. The new t-shirts are to a slightly different design and are now in stock. Cub sized shirts cost £6 each and are ideal for wear in the Summer Term instead of your sweatshirt.
Please note that the green "County Day" t-shirts do not count as official uniform wear - only our blue "2nd Bracknell" t-shirts may be worn with a scarf instead of your sweatshirt.

Fund raising the easy way
2nd Bracknell has joined the "buy.at" network which means that we earn commission on things you buy online if you go through our online shop at http://buy.at/2ndbracknell. You'll find over 100 retailers there including M&S, HMV, play.com, Amazon, John Lewis, Thorntons, Early Learning Centre and Field & Trek. See our Welcome Guide for more information about being a Cub Scout.

Scout Shop
If you need uniform then the Scout Shop is the place to go. The
Scout Shop page has more details and includes a map showing how to get there.

e-notes
We try to provide electronic copies of our notes when possible. We call them e-notes and you'll find a list of the current ones on the menu bar at the left of the page. All of these notes are in Word format.

If you are new to Cubs you may find our Welcome Guide useful. We also have some frequently asked questions such as what is the Law and Promise and a chart to show where the badges go.

Badge Requirements
We don't publish the requirements for badges on our site. To find the appropriate links to Scoutbase see the "Badges & Awards" link at the left of each page.
