As you may know, 2007 is a special year for Scouting, as it is 100 years since Baden-Powell founded the Scout Movement. Throughout the year there will be several special events to mark the Centenary, and one such event is the Scouting Sunrise on the 1st August 2007. This will be exactly 100 years since Baden-Powell opened the very first camp for Scouts.

Latest (18 July):
Personal Detail Forms:
if you haven't yet completed, signed and returned the PD form or paid the balance of the cost, can you please do so as soon as possible, as we would like to get all the paperwork sorted sooner rather than later.
Departure:
The Cubs and Scouts will be going to camp in a small fleet of minibuses. We would like the Cubs to come the hall on 28th July (with all their kit!) at 1:00pm in uniform so the we can leave as soon as everybody is there. The kit will be going on a van and we will load up the minibuses with the Cubs and Scouts. We would also ask that parents leave their charges in our care and not wait around until we leave to wave them off! It is going to take some organising to get the kit and everyone loaded into the transport and I am sure that you will appreciate with 3 minibuses and a van at the hall, parking space will be at a premium. We would prefer not to upset the neighbours with a lot of cars clogging up the road waiting for us to set off!
Uniform/Kit:
Cubs will need to ensure that they have their proper Cub sweatshirt with them, as they will need it on camp, as on Wednesday (the Centenary day) we will be renewing our promises in full uniform. Can you please also look at the kit list  as there items that they need to have that we don't usually have on the list, such as cutlery, plate etc plus items for the programme -
a piece of cardboard (approximately 18" x 18") and a newspaper (preferably a broadsheet).
Mini-Campers:
For mini-campers, the camp ends on Wednesday and they will need to be collected from Camp. For those of you not joining us for the Centenary Day fun and games, we suggest that you aim to collect them sometime between 19:00 and 20:00. Directions to the camp will be going up on the website. Please confirm your transport arrangements with Baloo.
Return: We return from camp on Saturday 4th August. We have to vacate the site by midday and should be back in Bracknell between 13:30 and 14:00. There will of course be a considerable amount of kit to be unloaded, and all help from parents and cubs will be very much appreciated. Also please remember the number of vehicles that need to get to the hall and consider parking elsewhere so that we have clear access.

The Leaders at 2nd Bracknell have decided that a fitting way to mark this is to have our own Summer Camp, open to all sections, over this date from Saturday 28th July to Saturday 4th August at Blackland Farm, near East Grinstead, where both the Cub and Scout sections have had several camps in the past (see "Past Events").

The cub and scout sections will be attending for the full week, but the leaders realise that this may be too much for some of the younger cubs and so, as in previous years, we will also be offering a mini camp (Saturday 28th July – Wednesday 1st August). Beavers and their families are invited to join us for their own mini camp from Sunday 29th July – Wednesday 1st August.

On 1 August Scouts across the world will be celebrating the centenary in the Scouting Sunrise ceremony. If you have a connection with 2nd Bracknell, either past or present, and will not be camping with the group you are invited to come down for the day.

Now that the lists have closed we have been able to work out the camp fees. These will be £50 for Beavers, £100 for Cub mini-campers and £135 for Cubs, Scouts and Explorers doing the full week. Letters explaining the fees and arrangements for paying have been issued recently (by e-mail) and may be downloaded from the e-notes section on the left of this page.

We expect to have around 130 people camping - which will be a challenge in itself. Behind the scenes the leaders are busily planning the programme and activities - we'll keep you posted.

Need camping equipment?
The leaders often go to the camping exhibition at Wokingham where there is a good range of tents and accessories. This year the show runs from 30 June to 22 July.
