Latest: Joining instructions now available

Our Nights Away event this term is something completely different! We have booked to stay for one night on HMS Belfast, which is a former Royal Navy warship and is now moored in London, close to Tower Bridge.

You will have a unique opportunity to experience life on board HMS Belfast, sleeping in real sailor’s bunks in two of the ship’s original mess decks. You will sleep in the original three-tier bunks, as used by the Royal Navy in the 1950s, with mattresses and pillows (hopefully not from the 1950s!). Lower and middle tier bunks are used only. Please note that access to the mess decks is via steep vertical steel ladders.

Programme
We will travel to London by train on Saturday morning. The train will arrive at London Waterloo and we will then walk along the Thames to HMS Belfast. When we arrive on board we will have our briefing and sort out our gear. Then we will be going to the Tower Bridge Exhibition.  After dinner at Pizza Express we will return to the ship for the evening. On Sunday we have breakfast on board and then the tour of the ship before she opens for the public. We'll then go for a walk across Tower Bridge and see some more London sights. Then we return to the ship to collect our gear before walking back to Waterloo and catching the train home.

We can now confirm that the cost will be £40. I am pleased to say that the leaders have decided to increase the number of places available for this trip and everyone who applied to go has a place.

It is now time to sort out the paperwork and collect the money for this trip. The health and consent form for this weekend may now be downloaded from our e-notes section on the left of this page. Please complete the form and return it to your leader as soon as possible

The kit list is also available. Please note that you will have to carry your own kit and look after it on the train. While Parbrook Cubs will be arriving at London Bridge, the 2nd Bracknell Cubs will be walking from Waterloo which is a bit of a step. We suggest you bring a rucksack or other kitbag that you can carry on your back.

Joining instructions are now available from the e-notes menu on the left of the page. Don't forget to bring appropriate clothing for the weather forecast:

This event is only open to those that have done at least one night away.
