Barry's bus
Barry Smith was Akela at 2nd Bracknell for over 30 years. You can see our tribute to him online. When he died last year he left the group some money. We have decided that we would use this money to buy a minibus. Barry's programme was always full of trips out with small groups to the seaside and museums so we think he'd approve. We used the minibus for our Summer camps where it saved us over £300 when compared to the cost of renting a similar vehicle for a week.

Hiring our minibus
Our bus is registered and insured for scout and guide use. We are happy to hire it out to other groups in our area - subject to some conditions and as long as it is not already booked for use by our own group.

• The cost is £50/day or part thereof plus the fuel you use. We always leave it full and would like it back that way. Cleaning out is the hirer's responsibility.

• We require a £150 deposit plus the anticipated rental in advance (deposit at time of booking rental before the bus is collected)

• Any one with a full UK licence for over 3 years and over 21 years of age can drive as it is not a commercial hire vehicle.

• A copy of all drivers licences is required at the time of booking, we have obligations to our insurers, which means no copy licence no insurance.

You should also note that our policy carries a £150 excess (£75 on glass) which we would expect hirers to cover in the case of a claim. If we have to get it cleaned the cost will be deducted from your deposit.
