New to Cubs?
Your questions answered

2nd Bracknell

When you first start Cubs it is all a bit confusing. Hopefully by now you will have read the Welcome Guide and things are becoming a bit clearer but it is likely you still have a few questions. This page has answers to the questions we get asked most often.

What time is Cubs?
It doesn't matter which night you go to, Cubs is always the same time. We start at 6:30 and aim to finish on time at 8pm. For safety reasons we ask that all our Cubs are collected from the hut. We do not allow any Cubs to leave the hut alone. In the summer months much of our meeting takes place in Lily Hill Woods. If you get to the hall before 8pm and find it all locked up then we are hopefully on our way back!

What is Cub Uniform?
Full uniform is a green Cub sweatshirt with our red group scarf. Grey (school) long trousers are usually worn at the start of the meeting but we advise bringing a change of clothes for wear later to keep your uniform clean. In the summer a green or blue group t-shirt may be worn with the scarf instead of the sweatshirt.

Where do I get the Uniform from?
The District Scout Shop is held at the District Headquarters in the grounds of Coopers Hill Youth Centre near the railway station in Bracknell. It is the best place to buy your uniform since any profits made are ploughed back into the District. Don't forget to tell them that you are a 2nd Bracknell member - you should get a discount and we get commission on your sale (a sort of loyalty bonus). Some shops also sell uniform but it is often more expensive. You will not be able to buy the group scarf - it is presented as part of the investiture (except to ex-Beavers who will already have a scarf).
You can buy t-shirts from the leaders on a pack night - they cost £6.

Where do the badges go?

When will my Cub be invested?
The Cub Scout Membership Award takes about a month to complete. The investiture happens at the end of that award. We like to wait about a month to give new members a chance to settle in. Uniform is required for the investiture but should not be worn until then.

What happens at the Investiture?
The Investiture is when each new member formally makes his Promise. It is then that they are given the badges to go on their uniform and their scarf. Parents are normally invited to the Investiture – it will take place at either the start or end of a meeting. Photography is encouraged, as it is a special moment for the Cub making his Promise.

The Cub Scout Law
The Cub Scout Promise

Cub Scouts always do their best,
Think of others before themselves,
And do a good turn every day.

I promise that I will do my best,
To do my duty to God and the Queen,
To help other people
And to keep the Cub Scout Law

What do I have to pay?
Group Subs of £25 are due at the start of each term. Cheques should be made payable to "2nd Bracknell Scout Group". We also have to charge for scarves - the current cost for a scarf is £3. We do not make any charge for badges.

What do you do each week?
The answer is given on the programme for the term. A paper copy is given out at the start of each term or you can see the
on-line version.

You haven't answered my question
The start and end of a pack meeting is always a pretty hectic time but please ask us if there is anything else you want to know. Alternatively you can e-mail or phone.
